Columbus, Ohio

It's been a snowy weekend. I could tell by the heavy whiteness of the clouds that it was going to snow. I laced up my boots for a walk and the crunch crunch crunch of the snow underfoot sounded like winter. Then I picked up the snow shovel to clear the walk ways and my body is now reminding me that I'm not as young as I once was.

Poet Karen Herseth Wee reflects in a similar manner in her poem called:

Another Body Poem

This body

changed

before my eyes

and I was

helpless

to stop it.

Young I

had thought

I was in charge

could will myself

tall, slim

almost happy

But the body

had other

ideas

lowered its center

of gravity

from the head

to the belly

preparing

for I

don't know what

although the bones

talk among

themselves, mostly

at night

and I dream

in their language

Come morning

I cannot recall

dialect, inflection

especially

meaning.
