Columbus, Ohio
For some time I have shared another's writing each Monday morning. It seems a good way to begin a Monday, which lately seems like almost any other day. Those musings on the words of another were offered to the beloved congregation I served for so long. Only a few ever read them, but those who did seemed glad to have done so. I'm migrating those Monday offerings to this platform for now, to share with you.
In today's poem, Sara Teasdale reflects on the give and take of life in her lovely work called
Barter
Life has lovliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children's faces looking up
holding wonder in a cup.
Life has lovliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.
Spend all you have for lovliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstacy
Give all you have been, or could be.
Sara Teasdale (1884-1933)

What do holy thoughts that star the night look like in your mind's eye?

Once again you have touched my heart with poetry. Your choice happens to be a favorite of mine. Truly there is beauty all around us if only we open our eyes to it and let it touch our souls.
I am happy to know that you have safely arrived in Columbus. Now comes the work of finding living accommodations and adjusting to a new job. Please know that you are in my prayers.
With love, Elaine
