Easter Monday

Columbus, Ohio

I'm so thankful that Easter is a whole 50 day season! We load a lot of freight (or maybe I load a lot of freight) into Easter Sunday. Resurrection and new life deserve more....at least 49 days more.

When we moved to Ohio, one of the things I was most looking forward to was getting to see cardinals again. Those flashy red birds (male) and the more muted, lovely females have much folklore attached to them. It is said that when a cardinal visits your yard, they are a visitor from heaven. We've been here for several months with no sightings, anywhere. I even asked my next door neighbor about this (she seems to be the one in the know about all things on Euclaire Avenue) and googled extensively.

Until yesterday. Easter Sunday morning. When with a flash of brilliant red and the faithfulness of a companion's following....in our yard, a pair of cardinals appeared. On Easter Sunday. Oh how I welcome these visitors from heaven, whoever they are. And they don't need to "be" anyone other than some of Creation's most flamboyant and colorful handiwork, come to pay a visit.

Beloveds, it is Easter....again and again we are reminded of the new life we have in Christ. Bruce and I are so full of gratitude. We've both had our two vaccinations and are currently 'percolating.' Our children are happy and healthy and, although we miss them, we know we will get to see them soon and we are so very proud of them and grateful to be their parents. Our yard is offering tulips and daffodils and the trees are blooming and the grass has turned green and it is warm in April. And our lives are better because of the wondrous people in them. And because of cardinals.

Alleluia! Christ is risen!

Christ is risen, indeed!

Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
