Monday Morning Musing: Delight and Other Wonders

There's a line in a Eucharistic Prayer that describes God calling forth Creation in whom God took delight. *
I am so drawn to this idea of taking delight in the pieces and places and people of our lives - events and occasions and things big and small. I'm thinking about delight and how it is different from gratitude. Gratitude seems grounded and solid and Delight feels full of bubbles.....carbonated wonder at those things that bring joy.
It's been a WILD week, hasn't it? I mean, on the political landscape of the U.S.A. And I'm birdwalking here to say that I'm simply in awe of a person who values our basic freedoms enough to step away from his own desires for the well being of a nation. Thank you, President Biden, for modeling integrity.
And then there's the bubbly enthusiasm, the wild hopefulness of many who think we might have a shot, a real shot, at defeating the evil empire. Go Kamala! We are with you! Cheering you on and donating money in amounts never seen before. Never. Anywhere. We are getting out the vote and hosting postcard parties and we are filled with hope again. **
But back to delight. For this week, and maybe longer, I'm going to try to name three things each day in which I take delight. Things like....
Lavender posies.....fireflies in summertime.....the way my beloved sets out our breakfast each morning and the way we enjoy it together.
Things like....
freezer jam on fresh bread... wedding photos (happy anniversary my beloved)...handwritten notes of love.
Things like...
Christmas in July....strawberries and blueberries....cinnamon bread from our local bakery.
What brings you delight in these waning days of July? If you haven't already found it, Ross Gay has a lovely volume of essays called The Book of Delights.
(Oh, I thought of one more! The promise of autumn....the first red leaf to tumble to the ground.....s'mores)
I am delighted, dear ones, that you are kind enough to read and support this little writing space. Thank you. May your week be filled with many delights!

Of course, this girl fills us with delight! My beloved caught
this moment as it happened, as evidenced by my shoe on
the ottoman!
*I think this is in the Book of Common Prayer. Maybe. The words live in my brain, but not the source!
**A reminder that this is my personal writing space, not my professional writing space. And a respectful request that if you think I'm wrong, please invite me to conversation one on one rather than sparking arguments on social media. I'd love to speak with you face to face.
