Monday Morning Musing: Black History Month and Women and Tides that are Turning

That was a lot to fit into a title, I know. But I've been thinking today about it being Black History Month and how a month seems too short a time to give thanks for so many amazing people in our history. (Also, March is Women's History Month. So, are the other ten months White Men History months? Because I have thoughts about that.) Anyway.

One of my favorite poets is Lucille Clifton, who is both black and a woman. There you go. And I love her poem 'blessing the boats' especially the line that talks about being carried out beyond the face of fear. I'm trying to lean into brave space here lately, even if it means moving forward when I don't know where I'm going! If you're leaning into brave spaces too, may Lucille Clifton offer you this encouragement:

blessing the boats

(at St. Mary’s)

may the tide that is entering even now the lip of our understanding carry you out beyond the face of fear may you kiss the wind then turn from it certain that it will love your back may you open your eyes to water water waving forever and may you in your innocence sail through this to that
