Fifty Days of Gratitude: Days 43 & 44

I've been thinking lately about the gift of friendship. One of the fortunate by-products of having lived in so many different places is that I am blessed with amazing friends. It's a splendid thing and something that I don't take for granted. I have friends who are the Ethel to my Lucy (or is it the other ways around?) and friends who are much older and friends who are much younger. I have friends who have stepped in to the sibling shaped void in my life with such grace and good humor that it brings me to my knees. Of course, I have a lot of friends who share a similar vocational path and our friendship is partly centered there, but it is much much more.
There is an old song that I learned in Girl Scouts that reminds us to make new friends but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold.
And in this way, I am rich indeed,
