Fifty Days of Gratitude: Day 25

I am at the computer early this morning, tending to some pressing work matters that need my attention before the day begins in full. I'm distracted, though, by the things that are welling up in me as this day begins. I told someone yesterday, who was pondering God's seeming absence in their life, that for me, the way I am aware of God ebbs and flows like tides - sometimes rushing in and sometimes seeming to have left for a place I cannot see. But I know God is there and that my awareness will return.

Last night's full pink moon reminded me that the tides are pulled by the moon, the "lesser light to rule the night." And rule it did, as it rose over the treetops to illuminate the cloudless sky in this corner of Creation. I was glad, as I watched it, that all of the people I love and all of the people in my life and all of the difficult people in my life were sitting under the same moon. I know, that's not an original or earth shattering reality, but it was my reality in that moment. And that we all awoke to this new day under the same bright star and in the care of the One who is present with it all.

On this half way mark in the practice of Easter gratitude, I'm grateful for the moon that pulls the tides and illumines the skies and gathers us all to rest.
