50 Days of Gratitude: Day 6

Today it felt as though we turned a corner, literally and figuratively, when we landed in Mt. Shasta, California. Located not far from the Oregon border, this town feels like the Pacific Northwest. The mountain is grand (almost as tall as Mt. Rainier) and the town has a laid back, open vibe to it. The people we’ve seen aren’t dressed in the glamour of SoCal, but in the flannel and beanie style of the PNW. We know we are close to home.

While walking to dinner at the local brewery, I spotted this sign on the door to a photo gallery. “Please Knock for a Sidewalk Chat.” I wondered about that sign for awhile: What moved the photographer to post it? Do people really knock just for conversation? What would it be like if we all posted on our doors what we are available for, just by knocking. Please Knock for a hug. Please Knock for some Chocolate. Please Knock for an Affirmation. Please Knock for a Joke (knock-knock style of course!) Please Knock for a Shoulder to Cry on. Please Knock for someone to listen. Please. Knock.

Today I am thankful for those who offer themselves for sidewalk chats or affirmation or shoulders to cry on, or whatever else is needed.
