50 Days of Gratitude: Day 31

Today’s gratitude is simple, which isn’t always how I feel in these very complex, disoriented days.

From time to time we have deer who wander close to the little cottage where we’re staying. I’m always surprised by them – by how fearlessly they amble close to us, by how they don’t scramble away from us as we whip out our phones and take their picture and stare intently at them. I’d like to borrow both some of that fearlessness as well as some of that peacefulness as I amble through the days.

Theologians say (and they’re right) that humans co-create with God. I’m reminded of the great privilege we were given of co-existing with all creatures, and with one another. For that privilege and responsibility and joy, I am grateful.
