50 Days of Gratitude: Day 29

It’s true that with twenty + days left in this gratitude practice, I’ve not written about some of the most obvious things that fill me with thankfulness. And they aren’t things at all, of course, they are people. My children and grandchild and my Beloved. Family and friends and friends who are so much like family. I think I’ll get to writing about that, but it’s interesting that I’ve not done so yet. I’m not sure there are words enough for that gratitude. Maybe that’s what’s holding me back.

For today, though, I’m specifically grateful that something that we hoped would happen, has.

When our new granddaughter’s parents feel that they need an additional hand or two, or something procured from the store, they call. And we so happily go. This morning the question was whether we had time to hold the squirmy wee one while her daddy worked and her momma did the things that needed to be done but are hard to do with a baby in tow. Bruce was busy with some work pieces he’s picking back up (more gratitude!) so I hopped in the car and was there within six and a half minutes, give or take. That sweet baby. This grandparenting gig is as amazing as everyone said it would be.

When we were imagining moving back so we could be a part of our grandchildren’s lives, we weren’t thinking about the BIG things, like special occasions (but those will be fun, too), we were thinking about the sweet ordinary moments that make a life. I am so deeply grateful that we are here for them.
