50 Days of Gratitude: Day 12

We’ve had such an interesting last month or so. Engaging in the actual task of dis-engaging from place and work and people and embarking on this new thing. Just now, Bruce and I are naming the way the newness doesn’t quite fit. It’s like a brand new pair of shoes that you are thrilled to have but still feel like a bit uncomfortable on your feet.

Renita Weems (womanist theologian) says that we don’t really experience resurrection until we walk through the disequilibrium of dying, shedding, and letting go. That feels right to me. Disequilibrium feels like a clunky, awkward, hard word for a clunky, awkward, hard thing. This buying a new pair of shoes and breaking them in. This new time of letting go of the old shoes.

Like the prophet, may we remember that it’s not really the shoes that are beautiful, but the feet of the one who brings the gospel of peace and glad tidings….

Today I’m thankful for feet and new shoes that don’t quite fit them yet.

Here's a link to a wonderful performance of How Beautiful are the Feet from Handel's Messiah:
