“Rest and laughter are the most spiritual and subversive acts of all. Laugh, rest, slow down.”
-Anne Lamott
This morning we got up, at about the same time we normally do, ate the same sort of breakfast we normally eat, and then….then I didn’t have any place I needed to be or anything I needed to do. So I snuggled on the sofa under a cozy blanket and read and dozed and read and dozed. Before I knew it, it was lunch time.
This is the surprise of time that is outside of time. Of Sabbath. Or sabbatical. That when we aren’t bearing the weight of an overscheduled life our bodies instinctively know to power down and rest.
For today, then, I’m so very grateful for the slow pace of the morning. I’m grateful for this time of renewal and resting and re-setting life.
